Examining the Importance of Transitional Supports that Foster Cultural (Re-)Connectedness Among Indigenous Youth Leaving Care. Theme: Health, Resilience & Well-Being.
Utilizing Indigenous research methodologies, this research seeks to examines what (if any) importance might culturally-informed transitional support have on Indigenous youth aging-out/transitioning-out of care in BC. Robert identifies as an emerging Anishinaabe researcher and scholar highly interested in application of Indigenous ways of knowing and being (e.g. Storytelling, Oral Traditions, Talking Circles, Medicine Wheel) into the construction, practice, and implementation of research to benefit Indigenous peoples from all Nations and all walks of life across Turtle Island. This study is currently in progress and forms a major component of Robert's graduate thesis requirements in the Masters of Indigenous Social Work program at the University of Victoria. Robert currently works at an an Indigenous Education Navigator for the Office of Aboriginal Education and Engagement at VIU.
